ARRANGEMENTS FOR HOLIDAY OF CESSATION OF HOS-TILITIES WITH GERMANY. Memorandum by the Minister of Labour and National Service.

26 Mar 1945

Accordingly Departments have agreed that any arrangements for Cease Fire holidays must embody a provision for a holiday on Cease Fire day and the day immediately following. 5. There remains, however, the question of the third day which, in the terms of the Ministry of Supply agreement, would be on a day to be announced later. The War Office have raised objections to the idea of setting apart a day for a public holiday because of the possible effect on members of the Forces serving overseas still engaged in the war with Japan.
