(THIS DOCUMENT IS THE PROPERTY OF HIS BRITANNIC MAJESTY'S GOVERNMENT) SECRET L.P. (45) 58. COPY NO. 71 7th March, 1945 WAR CABINET LORD PRESIDENT'S COMMITTEE CIGARETTES FOR THE FORCES Memorandum by the President of the Board of Trade 1. The War Office have now asked the Board of Trade for a substantial increase, over and above their original estimate for 1945, in the number of cigarettes they need for the Forces overseas during the remainder of this year. This revised demand is based on War Office estimates of the strengths in the different theatres of war, and includes provision for released British prisoners of war and also for new responsibilities for Allied troops and liberated Russians undertaken at the Yalta conference.
