2 6. We therefore endorse the proposals in the attached Report and ask for the approval of our colleagues to them. They have emerged from a Review which for the first time has been based on economic and financial data made available to both sides and accepted by both sides as impartial and reliable; they will in our view do all that it is possible to do by way of prices to support the efforts of the Agricultural Departments and the leaders of the National Farmers' Unions themselves to secure the production of the quantities and kinds of food that the nation needs; and they establish, with the agreement of the National Farmers' Union leaders, principles which will be of the greatest value for a realistic approach to future price-fixing problems.
