(ii) Increased mechanisation (though this does not always mean reduced demand for man power). (iii) Deferment of retirement from farming of older men and women (iv) Volunteer spare-time labour e.g. school—children, harvest camps etc. (v) Extra hours by farmers, farm workers and the families of both. 7. In 1945 the position will deteriorate. No appreciable increased mechanisation is possible. Wastage among older men and women will increase. Call—up of young men will continue. No increase in extra hours is possible.
