DOUBLE SUMMER TIME Memorandum by the Home Secretary

21 Feb 1945

-2- (d) The Ministry of Fuel and Power desires that Double Summer Time should operate preferably from April 8th to August 26th this year. They do not press for an earlier date of commencement but, as regards the terminal date (August 12th, under present Regulations), they point out that Double Summer Time has in the past been responsible for substantial economies in fuel, and that as the fuel shortage is even more acute than last year there is a case for extending the period. The Ministry's view would not be affected by the occurrence of "Cease Fire".
