COAL SUPPLIES FOR S.H.A.S.F. AND THE MEDITERRANSAN Joint Memorandum by the Minister of War Transport and the Minister of Fuel and Power

21 Feb 1945

7. S.H.A.E.F. require 356,000 tons (there is no Mediterranean requirement from the United Kingdom). If the above proposals are accepted, therefore, there would still be a deficit of 86,000 tons over the four months. The only means, other than shipment from the United States, which we can suggest for meeting this deficit is that production and movement of French indigenous coal be stepped up. 8. Over and above this deficit, there remains the still unphased and unscreened requirement for Scandinavia of about 428,000 tons per four months.
