It was. however, made clear in the Government statement about subsidy to private enterprise that when the legislation on the subject is introduced it will include conditions as to the selling price of subsidised houses, and it may be expected that any new houses built by private enterprise in the period immediate after the German war will be of the subsidised type. 7. The inter-departmental Committee will certainly not deal with the question of the selling price of houses directly. Indeed it would be outside their term of reference, and we think it very unlikely that their report will throw any re### light on the matter.
