greatest possible degree of staggering of holidays in Industry and any other practicable measures to this end which may be recommended by the Catering Wages Commission, whom I have asked to make a detailed examination of the question, will also be considered. 4. To avoid the incidence of holidays round about the August Bank holiday period, I should propose that this year again, as last year, the extra Saturday holiday before August Bank Holiday previously recommended should be abandoned. In substitution for it last year, as Christmas fell on a Monday, the previous Saturday, December 23rd was recommended as a holiday.
