QUARTERLY REPORT ON HOME FOOD PRODUCTION, DECEMBER, 1944. Memorandum by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Secretary of State for Scotland And the Secretary of State for the Home Department

10 Jan 1945

November 1944, compared with 306,879,000 gallons in the corresponding period of 1943. 5. Labour. The continued wet weather has accentuated labour difficulties with the potato and sugar beet harvests and despite the use of considerable numbers of German prisoners and of additional Italians, appreciable areas remain to be lifted. Recruitment for the women's Land Army is slow, owing to an insufficiency of volunteers of suitable physique and type; and throughout the country farmers' requests, especially for milkers, remain unsatisfied.
