The Committee had before them a joint memorandum by the Minister of Fuel and Power and the Minister of War Transport (L.P.(45) 41) setting out the results of the investigation into the possibility of meeting in full the coal requirements from this country for SHAEF and the Mediterranean theatre, which they had been invited to undertake at the last meeting of the Committee, and at the meeting of the War Cabinet on the 16th February (W.M.(45) 20th Conclusions, Minute 3). As regards the period ending 30th April, 1945, the two Ministers were now satisfied that 10,000 tons of opencast coal a week could be transported from Wentworth Woodhouse in Yorkshire and that, by this means, the requirements of SHAEF and the Mediterranean could be met without endangering the inland position.
