ROAD PASSENGER SERVICES: Memorandum by the Minister of War Transport.

1 Nov 1944

The current allocation of labour for inland transport provides for a net increase of 31,000 in 1944, I anticipate by the end of 1944 the actual increase in our labour force will stand at 28,000. Towards the total net increase of 13000 now required for bus operations there should, therefore, be a margin of 3,000 available on the existing allocation for 194, and I ask the agreement of my colleagues to an allocation 1945 of 10,000 for bus operation alone, the bulk of this to be achieved early in the year.
