STORAGE ACCOMMODATION. Memorandum by the Civil Lord of the Admiralty.

15 Sep 1944

-2- introduction of ammunition of new types for H.M.Ships, Assault Craft and anti-submarine warfare, and to the growing needs of the expanding Fleet Air Arm. The introduction of new types does not render obsolete an equivalent quantity of existing types of ammunition. It was originally intended to meet this requirement by constructing a new naval armament depot at Sprotbrough and the agreement of all Departments, except the Ministry of Agriculture was obtained. In January last the Lord President's Committee upheld the objection of the Ministry of Agriculture; but, recognising the existence of the need, directed that an attempt should be made to secure the requisite storage by transfer from the War Office.
