FACTORY AND STORAGE, ACCOMMODATION. Memorandum by the Minister of Production.

3 Aug 1944

4. The statistics show that the Departments at present ###ouny all, or virtually all, of the covered storage space available to them, and that, in addition, they also occupy a very large amount of open storage. 5. Column (e) of Appendix A shows the anticipated demands of Departments between now and the end of 1944 - After allowing for any current building programmes, Departments as a whole will have a total net demand within this period of some 9,500,000 sq.ft. (This figure is arrived at on the assumption that the Americans will be able to release approximately 3,000,000 square feet of Army storage between now and the end of the year, and this has been taken into account in arriving at the War Office figure in column (e)) The Factory and Storage Premises Control say that since column (e) contains requirements for larger units in specified localities, they should be able, as far as they can judge, to find approximately 5,000,000 sq.
