for a very short period, many of them going direct to France and only visiting England on leave. We have no precise information as to the extent to which the Act was made use of in practice, but there is no reason to suppose any great number of persons took advantage of it. The circumstances now are, of course, utterly different. Very large numbers of Dominion and Allied troops have been here during the war, and particularly in the case of Dominion troops, a very considerable number of marriages between them and English women have been contracted.
