INCREASED UTILISATION OF ANTHRACITE DUFF. Joint Memorandum by the Minister of War Transport and the Minister of Fuel and Power.

3 May 1944

-2- 6. To sum up, progress is steady but slow. This is mainly due to the following facts:- (a) the available blending plant is often unable to blend anthracite duff adequately with the normal fuel (an intimate mixture is usually essential); (b) it is usually necessary to test out the possibilities at each individual plant where anthracite duff is considered likely to be satisfactory, as results are greatly affected by slight variations in local circumstances; (c) transport considerations necessarily (and increasingly) limit the area in which this fuel can be made available.
