FACILITIES FOR COAL STOCKING AT AND NEAR COLLIERIES. Memorandum by the Minister of Fuel and Power.

2 Feb 1944

6. The considerations sat out above should be borne in mind in any appreciation of the present position regarding the availability and use of sites for stocking at or near the collieries. Broadly, stocking grounds in the producing regions are of two kinds:- (a) colliery stacking grounds operated by, and at the cost of, colliery undertakings; (b) Government stacking grounds at or adjacent to collieries or in the producing regions. The provision for stocking on Government account was intended to assist collieries who had accommodation available in stocking further tonnages at the pithead, and also to equip a number of large central sites capable of serving a number of collieries in the immediate vicinity.
