The four estimates were:- (i) 198 million tons This figure given in the previous paper to the Committee (L.P.(43) 276) assumed that losses of output due to holidays, stoppages, and transport difficulties would be pro- portionately the same in the year 1943-44 as in 1942-43. In L.P.(43) 276 and L.P.(44) 3 there was a further contingency of 650,000 tons on the consumption side to allow for the danger of further loss of output in the last five months of the coal year through disputes or sickness.
