11 Jan 1944

###CRET ###P.(44) 6. ###th January, 1944. (THIS DOCUMENT IS THE PROPERTY OF HIS BRITANNIC MAJESTY'S GOVERNMENT) WAR CABINET LORD PRESIDENT'S COMMITTEE RESTRICTIONS ON MEN'S SUITS Memorandum by the President of the Board of Trade 1. In the Spring and Summer of 1942 I made various Orders limiting the styles in which civilian clothing may be made. In the aggregate these regulations have resulted in substantial economies of cloth and labour. 2. The restrictions on men's suites - especially those on turn-ups, number of pockets and double-breasted jackets have been unpopular both with the trade and the public, and have led to much public discussion and some irritation.
