REPLACEMENT OF ALLIED TONNAGE BY BUILDING IN THE UNITED KINGDOM Previous Reference: The Committee resumed Memorandum by the Minister (L.P. (44) 204). THE MINISTER OF WAR TRANSPORT said that Lord of the Admiralty, who was unable to be present owing to indisposition, had asked him to inform the Committee that he supported the proposals L.P. (44) 204. set out in their consideration of the of War Transport L.P. (44) 58th Meeting, Minute 4. THE PAYMASTER GENERAL said that the requirements of British shipowners for the replacement of losses incurred during the war and of obsolescent tonnage would be sufficient to absorb all our merchant shipbuilding capacity for some years after the end of the war.
