1. The Committee had before them a note by the Minister of Aircraft Production (L.P.(44) 96) covering a report by the Aeronautical Research Committee on National Require- ments for Aeronautical Research and Development. The note explained that the Report of the Aeronautical Research Committee covered the provision of facilities for research into aircraft and engine design over the next ten to fifteen years. The science of aeronautics had reached a vital transitional stage and it was essential to provide facilities for the development of new types which would fly at speeds and altitudes and have a range of flight not hitherto attained.
