Following a meeting between representatives of all Departments interested, a further site was suggested by the Ministry of Production at Annfield, near Consett, Durham. Geological survey showed, however, that this site was heavily undermined and would present serious constructional difficulties; moreover, the Central Transport Committee indicated that the required rail traffic could not he handled if the depot were located on this site.
