LONG TERM MEAT CONTRACTS. Memorandum by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Secretary of State for Scotland.

14 Dec 1943

suppliers will have been encouraged by us to put themselves in a favourable position for staking out their claims to a share in the long-term meat market. In particular the incentive given to Argentine to increase her meat production to the maximum possible extent during the period of world shortage envisaged at Hot Springs, will put her in a position to claim a preponderating share in the market when the period of shortage comes to an end. 6. There is a risk that towards the end of the four years European countries may not wish or be in a position to accept their full share of the purchases made under the contracts.
