NORTHERN IRELAND POTATO PRICES. Note by the Lord President of the Council.

4 Dec 1943

easy to say precisely by how much prices in Great Britain are higher than in Northern Ireland but an indication of the difference is given by the following examples. (i) For Kerrs Pink, which is a main crop variety grown in both countries, prices in Northern Ireland in October-December 1943 were 21/8 to 31/8d. lower per ton, depending on the district in Great Britain with which comparison is made. (ii) If a comparison is made between the prices of varieties commonly grown in the two countries, namely, Arran Victory in Northern Ireland and Majestic in England and Wales (that is, a comparison between a Grade A potato in Northern Ireland and a Grade B potato in Great Britain) the difference in prices ranges from 6/8d.
