RESTRICTION OF RAILWAY PASSENGER SERVICES AT CHRISTMAS. Memorandum by the Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport.

2 Dec 1943

passenger trains run by any Company on all its routes shall not exceed the number on the corresponding ordinary day in December 1942; but that the limitation of the number on each route shall be abandoned, subject to no increase in the total long-distance mileage. They point out that on some routes they are able during the holiday period to take off some of their normal time-table trains, and thus the total number of trains which they run on all routes on any given day during a holiday period is, under the present direction, substantially less than the number actually run on all routes on the corresponding day a year ago.
