DECEPTIVE MARKING OF FOODSTUFFS. Memorandum by the Minister of Food.

11 Oct 1943

5. The additional power which the draft Regulations confer upon me is in regard to a certain class of false and misleading advertisements. This enables me to "impose requirements as to the advertisements of food claiming or suggesting the presence of vitamins or minerals". Under the Food and Drugs Act the corresponding power is limited to the general ban on false and misleading advertisements. Having regard to the attention which is being directed to the importance of vitamins and minerals in diet, it is advisable that the Ministry of Food should be able to protect the public from being misled in regard to these matters and to prevent exploitation of the national nutritional policy.
