WAR PENSIONS. Memorandum by the Home Secretary.

3 Jul 1943

-2- There does not, however, seem to be any special reason for giving a man who is virtually unemployable a### who marries after the date of the injury an allowance f### a wife and children. It would seem to follow, as point out in paragraph 24 of the Minister of Pensions' Memorandum, that a pension would have to be granted to the widow of a man who married after sustaining his disability and who subsequently died of it. Moreover, I apprehend that once this departure is made from the principles on which the present pensions are based, the### will be pressure to extend it to other cases.
