6 Apr 1943

-2- Compensation has been offered for the requisitioned tyres on a sc###le in accordance with the Compensation (Defence) Act 1939 and agreed with###th Treasury, Nearly three-quarters of the owners have accepted straight away the compensation offered, the remainder reserving their right to a claim to the tribunal under the Act. The question now arises of proceeding with requisitioning elsewhe###. The requisitioning will, of course, leave the owners of these cars without tyres at the end of the war, and so long as a shortage of tyre continues they may be unable to replace them in so far as they do not require their cars for purposes which are then regarded as essential.
