Further call up of Agricultural workers.

7 Apr 1943

7. A further registration of the next quarter year's age group has now taken place. The young men to be release from this group to the Armed Forces - about 800 of them - wi###l be due to be called up in or about August, when the corn ha###e will already have begun. 8. These two call-ups, involving the loss of some 2,500 experienced workers during the busy agricultural se are bound to meet with much criticism in Parliament and will in our view, create serious practical difficulties. 9. We think it necessary, therefore, that the positi### should be reported to the Committee to see whether, even at stage, it is not practicable to fill the ranks of the Armed Forces for the time being from other sources and to leave th call-up of these young men until the end of the year.
