23 Mar 1943

in industry where the compensation, even under of wages, not reach the maximum. The effect, therefore, of giving women a flat-rate of 35/- under the Personal Injuries (Civilians) Scheme would be that a woman under that Scheme will, generally speaking, receive more than a woman coming under the Workmen's Compensation Act. I do not see, however, how this could be used as an argument either for giving a woman a higher percentage of earnings under that Act than a man, which would mean discrimination according to sex, or giving an all-round increase in the maximum compensation.
