Personal Inquiries (Civilian) Scheme. Equal Compensation for men and women.

4 Mar 1943

The Committee's statement in para. 10 that a married man in receipt of an Injury Allowance draws no wife's allowance unless he is in hospital is not strictly an accurate statement of the position, although the effect of the present arrangements has substantially this result. Injury allowances do not carry with them any addition by way of wife's allowance. The rate of 35/- laid down for a married man represents the maximum rate payable under the Workmen's Compensation Acts and under those Acts the compensation payable is not affected by whether the man is in hospital or not.
