Moreover towards the end of August the evenings draw in so that under double summer-time daylight is insufficient to continue harvesting. (Blackout ends at 5.41 a.m. and begins at 8.19 p.m. in London on 1st September). The domestic difficulties are so great that 90 per cent of the farmers have been unable to avail themselves of the concession to work single summer-time.
