In accordance with the decision reached by the Lord President's Committee on the 5th September, 1942, following their discussion of a memorandum submitted by the Minister of Labour and National Service and the Minister of War Transport (L.P.(42) 186), the Committee was appointed to review the functions and activities of the Mechanised Transport Corps, to consider what steps ought to be taken to meet the demands for women drivers of Government Departments and other bodies which have hitherto relied for this purpose on the Mechanised Transport Corps, and to consider what further measures may be necessary to ensure a sufficient supply of women drivers for official purposes, and to report in due course to the Lord President's Committee.
