-2- would ease a part of the burden at present resting on the Ministry of Labour staffs and would save a certain amount of paper and of time in retail shops. It cannot be pretended that the saving would be very great, but it would be one worth making. I suggest that the committee should authorise the simplifications proposed. The enquiry also suggests that in future the Cost of Living Index should be calculated and published quarterly instead of monthly. The dates in respect of which the Index would be quoted would, it is suggested, be the 1st March, the 1st June, the 1st September and the 1st December.
