MAN POWER. Memo. by the Minister of Labour and National Service.

20 Oct 1942

(ii) repercussions on munitions and other industries, it will be necessary to take the following steps:— (1) Curtail further the less essential industries and services. The Ministry of Labour and National Service will carry out a review in each industry, for which they must have the active co-opera- tion of other Departments, and submit proposals to the Lord President's Committee. These proposals will inevitably involve a substantial reduction in amenities and civilian standards. (2) Pursue vigorously the policy of transferring men and women from work of less importance to work of greater importance.
