2. 8. Women's Land Army over 52,500 members of the Women's Land Army are now in employment in Great Britain. 9. Prisoners of War Nearly 20,000 Italian prisoners are now employed in agriculture, mainly on drainage and other heavy work. 40 camps are in operation. 800 prisoners are "living in" on farms. 10. Animal Health 432 outbreaks of foot and mouth disease were confirmed between 1st June and 17th September, 1942, involving the slaughter of 16,395 cattle (including approximately 9,100 cows and heifers), 13,102 sheep and 5,879 pigs.
