PIGS. SELF-SUPPLIERS OF: Memo. by Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries.

14 Sep 1942

(e) Miners. Miners in the Midlands, South Wales, Forest of Dean and elsewhere keep pigs and would generally have two per year, both of which they can slaughter at present for their own use. The suggested change would, therefore, deprive them of this additi### to their food, to which they attach much importance owing to the nature of their work. 4. My own view is that the forthcoming reduction in feeding- stuffs rations for pigs is a sufficient cut. If we go further and reduce the amount of pig meat retainable for home consumption, we shall not only cause serious hardship to numbers of people engaged in vital war work, but we may also find that many farmers will stop keeping pigs.
