8 Sep 1942

5. In all cases except fodder roots and sugar beet the August 1st estimates of Crop yields per acre shows an advance on the previous year. This combined with the increase of acreage results in a substantial increase in estimated production Potatoes are estimated to yield more than 1,000,000 tons in excess of the previous year and approximately 4,000,000 tons over 1939. If this were realised the output of potatoes would nearly double the average output of 1936-38 (i.e. 9,230,000 as against 4,897,000 tons).
