GENERAL ECONOMIC POSITION.QUARTERLY SURVEY OF: Comments by Minister of Food on:

22 Jul 1942

W. to 12th January, 1942. It is very unlikely that we shall be able to repeat either of these increases in any future war winter. (b) Calory requirements are increased in war-time by reason of the movement of large number of people into more strenuous occupation and into the Services. It is estimated that the average requirement per day at 31st December, 1941, was over 6% greater than at the outbreak of war. 6. On the basis of calory statistics it is, however, difficult if not impossible to arrive at an accurate comparison of food supplies with requirements at any given time.
