Meanwhile, the road passenger transport operating grades, who had previously moved in parallel with the railwaymen, secured an addition of 4/- to their war advance, making 15/- a week and following this a claim lodged by the A.S.L.E.F. was settled for 4/- bringing the war allowance to 15/- for members of this Union also. Railway Shopmen. The present war advance of the railway shopmen is 12/- a week. When claims (a) and (b) in paragraph 1 above were lodged in March last, the R.E.C. were authorised to make an offer of 4/a week, which would have raised the war wage of the shopmen to 16/-, or in the case of the minimum rated men who benefited by the Tribunal's award of 4/6d, to 16/6d.
