HOME FOOD PRODUCTION FOR THE 1943 HARVEST. Memo. by Minister of Food.

26 May 1942

9. In so far as the Agricultural Ministers cannot get so large an increase in potatoes, we should like them to try to make good any deficiency by still greater wheat production, subject to the proviso that we need minimum increases of 150,000 acres of potatoes and 55,000 acres of vegetables. The demand for potatoes continues to grow and, if we are to ensure that we can continue to avoid rationing them and at the same time make good the supplies of vitamin C which used to be provided by imported fruits, at least an additional 150,000 acres are required.
