At a recent conference of an important group of Scottish Public Assistance Authorities held in Glasgow a resolution was passed pressing for the application of the principles of the Act to public assistance. 4. In March last the Minister of Health received a letter from the Labour Party asking him to receive a Deputation to discuss:- "(a) the need for applying the provisions of the Determination of Needs Act to the Poor Law Acts, and (b) the acceptance of the principle that the scales laid down in the supplementary schemes in which the Act operates, be a basic minimum of weekly payments, below which no Assistance Authority should fall.
