COAL. Report by Secretary for Mines for February, 1942.

7 Apr 1942

-2- electricity undertakings showed a fall of 330,000 to 2,451,900 tons (4.8 weeks' supply). Industrial stocks fell by over 450,000 tons, engineering and other metals falling to 5.4 and other industries to 4.3 weeks' supply respectively. At the same time, the domestic coal position became serious. In spite of well—maintained deliveries there were local shortages in many areas and the distributive services were strained to the utmost. In some places Local Authorities assisted in delivering coal and helped to relieve an extremely difficult situation.
