The Committee had before them a Memorandum by the Minister of Fuel and Power (L.P. (42) 267) reporting the results of an analysis of absenteeism and output per man-shift which had been undertaken by his Department, in consultation with the Central Statistical Office. The main conclusion of this analysis was the great variation in performance between Districts and individual pits? and the difficulty of making any generalisations, particularly so far as concerned output during the last 15 months.
