At their Meeting on the 5th August the Committee had invited the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in consultation with the Minister of Works and Planning, to investigate in detail the costings on which the application from the cement industry for authority to increase the selling price of cement by 1/6d per ton was based; and to consider, in the light of the general financial position of the industry and of the arrangements made with other industries, whether it was reasonable to continue the existing arrangements allowing for profit at the rate of 10%.
