A file containing the minutes of meetings of the Lord President's Committee on domestic affairs during the Second World War. The committee addressed issues presented to them in memoranda on a range of topics including fuel rationing; the practicalities of wartime shipping; the economic position of the country; and the ratio of wheat in the production of bread. Other topics covered included social issues such as wage disputes in industry; personal injury compensation and issues associated with unequal payments to men and women; and healthcare matters such as the numbers of doctors in the forces and at home, outbreaks of smallpox, and the procedure for venereal disease testing. The meetings also discussed a judicial vacancy in the High Court; restrictions on the publication of newspapers with fascist and communist sympathies, and the related ethical issues; financial allowances for industrial fire-watching duties; and the compulsory involvement of women in fire-watching.
