A file containing the minutes of meetings of the Lord President's Committee on domestic affairs during the Second World War in the War Cabinet. The committee addressed issues presented to them in memoranda on a range of topics including the rationing and prices of fuel, agricultural produce, and consumer goods; the interpretation of a pledge of guaranteed prices for principle agricultural products; the wages of farmers and miners; and the lack of manpower at home in the medical and coal-mining industries. Other subjects discussed include the dates of Double Summer Time; the production and use of rubber and the subsequent restrictions imposed on motor vehicles; and social issues such as the provision of funds for families and children, and old age pensions. Also covered is international trade of various description with the U.S.A., Australia, and South America; the need to economise om shipping use; and the employment of women as fire-watchers.
