FOOD RATIONS. REDUCTION IN CERTAIN: Memo. by Minister of Food.

16 Dec 1941

4. Cheese. The present cheese ration is 3 oz. per week for the ordinary consumer and 12 oz. for the priority consumer. The amount available for the priority consumer was raised to 12 oz. from 8 oz. per week on 15th December. We are very largely dependent upon supplies from the Southern Dominions to maintain the ration. Out of a total import programme of 350,000 tons, I am counting upon something in the neighbourhood of 200,000 tons from the Southern Dominions. It is too early at this stage to say to what extent that quantity will be forthcoming but it is only reasonable to assume that at the very least, there will be considerable interference with its transport.
