RETAIL TRADE COMMITTEE. INTERIM REPORT: Memo. by President of the Board of Trade.

22 Oct 1941

SECRET RETAIL TRADE COMMITTEE. Report on the opening of new shops and the restriction on categories of goods sold in existing shops. Since our appointment in May we have had our attention called to a number of matters which seem to fall within the terms of reference to us and we are endeavouring to collect information both as to facts and as to opinions held by retail traders to enable us to give full consideration to these problems. But already it has become clear to us that there is one matter which most retail traders regard as calling for immediate attention, namely, the necessity for some form of control over the opening of new shops.
