ECONOMY OF TRANSPORT - RATIONALISATION OF DISTRIBUTION. Memorandum by the President of the Board of Trade. I was asked by the Committee at their 26th Meeting to submit proposals for securing economies in the use of petrol by changes in the system of distribution of goods other than food. Since then the Ministry of War Transport and the Board of Trade have been examining this question on the basis that the problem must be considered as a whole, that is, as one of rail as well as road transport and of wholesale as well as retail distribution.
