NUTRITION OF SCHOOL CHILDREN. Joint Memo. by President of the Board of Edcuation, Ministry of Food and S/S Scotland.

24 Sep 1941

MEMORANDUM THE NUTRITION OF SCHOOLCHILDREN The Problem. (1) In the latter part of the last war many children in all sections of the population suffered from malnutrition. Today, the arrangements for feeding the general population are not such as to ensure that the nutrition of children is fully maintained: whereas adults may fully recover from the effects of deficiency in the quality or quantity of their diet, the injury to children may be prolonged or even permanent. (2) The danger of malnutrition among children arises broadly in two ways :(a) For proper growth children require a relatively large proportion of first-class proteins (meat, cheese, milk, eggs); but in this respect the general diet is new substantially below normal.
